Unfiltered & Unforgettable
We view grizzly and black bears that are completely wild and our bear viewing experience is fully immersive. Each day we head into remote terrain walking on bear trails and following bear tracks in habitat almost unchanged since the last Ice Age.

A Veteran’s Insights
During your time with us, we will show you how to interpret tracks, rubs and tiny hair samples left on trees. After dinner each night, we host an optional evening of learning and discussion. Julius, your lead guide, has nearly two decade’s experience walking around wild bears and is one of the few guides in BC certified to train new guides. He will talk about the nuances of bear behaviour and tell tales from his nearly 2,000 encounters with wild bears. In the winter Julius is an active journalist and reports on Russia and Ukraine, the Balkans and the Middle East. He also lectures at universities.

Spring Highlights
Extended Daylight
Spring is vibrant and the long days allow us to roam far and wide, both in 4×4 vehicles and on foot. We walk quietly into hidden valleys, sometimes along trails that we have fashioned ourselves, or head up to the glorious sub-alpine just as the snow is melting and the glacier lilies are coming out.
Bear Diversity
In May and June we view bears in and around our remote valley. We typically see multiple black bears and, more often than not, we see grizzly bears as well. If we’re lucky, sometimes we see mums with tiny cubs-of-the-year only born the previous winter, enjoying their first spring.
Wildlife Sightings
Our valley has a remarkable array of Canada’s signature megafauna. We regularly see elk, moose, coyotes, porcupines and beavers, as well as wolves, lynx, bobcats and cougars on occasion. The spring is also the best time to enjoy our rich avian life, including our tiny rufous hummingbirds.

Autumn Highlights
Prime Grizzly Season
In October we primarily view grizzly bears that have come down from the mountains to fish for salmon in the river that runs along the edge of our property. You will be invited to join an experienced guide—usually on foot, occasionally in a river raft—in a group with two or three other guests.
Wildlife Education
We will show you how to interpret tracks and signs left behind by animals, and how bears read the landscape they are moving through. Our extensive knowledge and expertise in interpreting bear behaviour allows us to walk with confidence around grizzly bears, even mums with cubs.
True Wilderness
Our valley is a little-known secret in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia’s interior—away from the crowded bear-viewing in coastal BC that often caters more to tourists. We use trails we have cut ourselves and, in two decades, have almost never seen another person on them.
